Johan & Nyström Sumatra Gayo is known for its rich aromas of spices, herbs and fresh figs. The coffee is remarkably full-bodied, well-balanced and has a mild tenderness in the end. This Fairtrade and Organic Certified coffee is sourced from the cooperative Koptan Gayo Megah Bersiri in Aceh province on Sumatra’s northernmost tip. The coffee of local typica-varieties such as Ateng, Tim-tim and S-Lini grows between 1,300 and 1,500 meters altitude.
After picking the ripe berries they are stripped of its musilage. This is done directly by the farmer with a primitive pulping machine. Then the coffee is left to ferment overnight in woven plastic sacks before it starts the day after dried in the sun. This process produces a coffee that combines the best of a washed Gayo coffee and a traditional Sumatra Ling Tung or Mandheling.
Johan & Nyström had the pleasure to get serve the great Sumatra Gayo coffee to guests at the Nobel Banquet and Nobel Night Cap in 2012 & 2013. The coffee is Fairtrade and Organic Certified.
